New TV Show Is Changing The Lives Of Rescue Dogs And The Humans That Love Them

Your new favorite show is on the air and you may not even know about it. You may recognize him by the nightly guilty pleasure you had in the early 2000s, when you sat on the couch with a bowl of ice cream and immersed yourself in the drama of a relentless episode of cheaters. I know I wasn’t alone.

Tommy Habeeb, the original host of Cheaters, is back and this time he’s showing even more incredible stories, all with much happier endings!

To The Rescue provides dog rescues across the country, showing the world the incredible job they are doing.

“I was part of the rescue for a long time, but not quite as deep in it. The SPCA in LA asked me to join a group of different actors on a special board that they created. They also asked me to host their telethons with my favorite actress, Betty White. It brought me closer to rescue and understanding when I saw these dogs come in and be abused, ”Tommy told iHeartDogs.

Sometimes the best things are the biggest surprises

It wasn’t until one evening when he was having dinner with friends that one of his friends told him about their dog rescue. Dinner was kismet and Tommy decided it was time to use his platform to make a difference. He spent a couple of years developing the show and, as fate often does, the show was very different from what he intended.

“The show I thought we were doing turned out to be something completely different. For me, it’s more about humanity and people. Yes, we are saving the lives of dogs, but these dogs are actually saving the lives of these people. You see this, the relationship with animals and humans, and it’s so amazing, ”he said.

It’s the classic question: “Who saved whom?”

To The Rescue has become that impressive series that shows how humans and dogs depend on each other for love and support. The effects, especially after last year, are not lost for Tommy.

With people around the world staying home more than ever, it often meant longer periods of isolation. People rely on connections and social interaction to thrive emotionally. For many of us, this type of support has four legs and a cold, wet nose that will give you kisses in the middle of the night.

“You see these people in trouble and get one of these rescue dogs, and then you see their lives change. It’s so solid. It is so beautiful. I am blessed to be able to tell these stories, ”said Tommy.

To The Rescue has taken over the market since it aired and has become the # 1 syndicated show for CW Plus, surpassing long-time favorites like Seinfeld and Schitt’s Creek.

“This little show about life – human life and the lives of these beautiful dogs – has resonated with people across the country. I think we need some warmth and fuzziness sometimes, ”he explained. “We don’t really know when people go into their houses and close their doors, what stress and pressure people are under… When a dog is in the house with all of its unconditional love, these dogs just love them when they open that door close up and give them someone to talk to when they can’t talk to anyone else. It is a powerful thing. “

So much more is going on behind the scenes

Seeing the transformation dogs can give people has inspired Habeeb fearlessly to delve deeper into his quest to be a force of change in the world of mental health, for both dogs and humans.

He recently featured Mariel Hemingway, a two-time Academy nominee and mental health expert, on an episode of To The Rescue to tackle the teenage suicide epidemic that continues to grow year after year. This episode shows how a dog’s unconditional love can differentiate between life and death.

It doesn’t stop there.

Working with To The Rescue, Tommy also set up his own foundation, the Forever Family Rescue Foundation. A portion of the show’s proceeds will go to the foundation to help fulfill its mission.

“Our mission is to bring these unadaptable dogs in trouble in shelters together with first responders in different cities. If a firefighter, police officer, or veteran takes and grooms or adopts one of these dogs, we pay for everything, ”said Tommy. “We pay for all of their food, all of their health care. You have no cost. You just give love to that animal and take love back. “

If you wonder what life is like when the cameras are rolling …

It’s clear that Tommy Habeeb is working hard to bring about positive change across the country, but when he’s home there’s a wagging tail waiting for him at the door. Tommy and his family care for dogs, but it is his permanent fur baby, a Portuguese water dog named Winston, who is the first to shower him with love when he comes off the street.

His celebrity status might make you assume that his life is different from most of us, but when he describes the blurry face dancing on the doorstep as he drives into the driveway after a mentally and physically exhausting day, it becomes clear that Tommy Habeeb lives his life just like the rest of us. And he understands firsthand how important dogs are, which makes To The Rescue as real and heartwarming as it gets.
